Apron Roundup

Kids’ aprons are a must-have during the Holiday season, so we have gathered a variety of styles that will keep their clothes tidy while they help out in the kitchen. Anthropologie is widely known for its fabulous women’s fashions but they are also incredibly fabulous in the few children’s products they carry. I adore their aprons for myself and my daughter is beyond thrilled when she can have a matching apron to mom!
We have searched high and low to find you the best aprons out there, not just from Anthropologie. Pottery Barn Kids is a great place to find darling, frilly aprons, usually in seasonal styles. Ikea and Crate and Barrel’s children’s site, The Land of Nod,  have some great options. Lastly, if you are feeling crafty, we included a DIY option from Martha Stewart, that older girls could do as a project with a little help from a parent.

Little chefs can keep their clothes tidy and cook in style with these easy-to-make aprons.

Attach designs made of washable felt and rickrack to kid-size canvas aprons with fabric glue. An ornament doubles as a pocket (glue bottom and sides), the perfect place to stash a cookie for on-the-job nibbling.
Amazon is a great source for buying plain white canvas aprons for this project, costing under $4.

Holidays with Ralph Lauren

The classic style of Ralph Lauren is one of my favorites for the holidays. Polo shirts are always a great casual look and in recent years, Ralph Lauren has stepped up their children’s clothing lines to include gorgeous fashions ranging from costly to quite affordable. Right now, many of their special occasion and holiday styles are even marked down.

Toddler Hair Tutorial

1. First part hair into 4 sections. Starting from top of your head dow to each ear. This makes the two front sections.
2. Split the back of the hair into two parts. This does not need to be precise. Now, I like to put a little product on my hands. Just a little bit to help your hands stick to their hair and give you more control. Nothing wet or sticky, just a little tacky.
Here are some ideas of products that work well:  Bumble and Bumble Grooming Creme or Paul Mitchell Shaping Creme
Holiday Hair for Kids 13 & 4.  Then you want to tie the back two pieces into a knot. Nice and low.

5.  Continue  to tie knots until you run out of hair. Do this as tight as you can. It will loosen up on it’s own.
6, 7 & 8. Then finish with a rubber band and tuck end under and secure with a bobby pin.
9. Take one of the side peices and wrap it over the top of the knot and then around and under it and secure it with a bobby pin. Repeat with other side. This will cover up the space ubove the knot. It is easier with longer hair. If you are doing this with shorter hair, and it wont wrap all the way around and under, you can pin it into the knot.

10. It is ok if it is loose. That is kind of the look. It doesn’t need to be perfect. Just try and hide all your bobby pins. You can pin up more of the front peices if you like.

11. I like using shorter bobby pins for little ones. I cannot find a link for them but you can get them at Sally’s Beauty Supply. One brand is Strictly Professional. If you prefer the regular size ones these are the best. They stay closed  really well and are great bang for your buck.

Pretty Toddler Ballet Buns

00050395

All the little girls at my daughter’s most recent holiday Nutcracker ballet performance were using (or rather, their mom’s were using) these bun donuts to make the most beautiful, shiny, full buns, even on fine or short toddler hair.

the tool looks like this, which you can purchase from amazon or most beauty supply stores: (you can also make your own by cutting out the toe area from a sock and rolling it to form the donut.)

So here is how to make the perfect ballet bun, using the bun form above:

Kids Holidaywear at Neiman Marcus for Target

1017-target-neiman-marcus-holiday-look-book-Marchesa_fa
In just a few days, Neiman Marcus and Target will present Holiday24, an exclusive collection of 50 gorgeous gifts from 25 top designers. Starting December 1 for a limited time. The dresses below are by Designers Marchesa (Dark Pink Floral and off-white beaded dresses), and Jason Wu (solid and print dresses). Get a sneak peak at the collection on Target‘s website.
I love these holiday hairstyles to pair with the gorgeous dresses above. These hairstyles work well for holiday parties, Christmas and Hanukkah. Twisting back the sides and securing them with a bobby-pin in the back makes an elegant look with some loose ringlets on long or short little girls’ hair. Perfect for all of your holiday celebrations! Older girls (around 6 years old) can do this style themselves.

Girly Pink Gingerbread Houses

americangirlhouse

I first saw the idea of pink gingerbread houses in the American Girl Doll Holiday 2012 catalog. I love non-traditional colors for Christmas to change things up a little, especially when you are decorating your daughter’s room for the holidays, or like my little girl, who has a mini silver Christmas tree that we decorate in pastel pink, blue and purple, with silver and white accents.
